A MUCH-LOVED Bridgwater pub is hosting a day of entertainment to raise funds for a local family who were seriously injured in a car accident whilst on holiday in Portugal earlier this month.

The Webber family were hit by an oil tanker whilst driving on a dual carrigeway in Portugal on August 8.

Finlay Webber, aged 23, was left in a coma following surgery for a broken femur, dislocated hip, and head trauma. Finlay remains in hospital overseas with his dad, who are both desperately missed by the rest of the family.

The Enmore Inn, situated on Enmore Road in Bridgwater, will host a fundraiser day this Saturday 2 September from 2pm, to help cover the costs to bring Finlay home, as well as support the Webber family.

Carla, who works at the inn, had the idea to host the day of entertainment after learning of the tragic news.

"I just felt for them, as a mother," Carla said.

"If I've got a way to help, I will."

News of the important fundraiser event spread quickly, and Carla has been extremely impressed with the support from the Bridgwater community.

"When you can all come together for a local family, it's just humbling," she said.

Local businesses have provided several donations for the event's raffle and tombola, as well as donations from the butchers.

A well-known local family have been "heavily involved" in organising and planning for the event. Their son, Daniel Mee, sadly fell to his death whilst on holiday in Spain in 2019, prompting them to since set up the Love U Lots charity.

As well as opportunities to win prizes on the raffle and tombola, the Enmore Inn's event will feature a whole host of talented musicians and bands who will be performing live throughout the day. These include:

  • Crosstown rockband
  • Leia Violet
  • Ella Buller
  • Daisy Lee
  • Ruby Neal
  • The Additions
  • Arthur Shaw

In addition to all of the above, a ventriloquist, and a bouncy castle will feature at the event for even more entertainment.

All donations for the event are welcomed, with a particular need for bigger prizes to be auctioned off during the fundraiser day. To get in touch regarding donations, please contact the inn via their Facebook page, or phone 01278 238500.

The Enmore Inn's fundraiser day will not only hope to raise money for Finlay and the rest of the Webber family, but also aims to bring the community together during what can only be described as a tragic time for Bridgwater.

"They need to know people are out there doing stuff for them and thinking of them." Said Carla, who had the initial idea to host the fundraiser day.

Others seriously injured in the crash include Sam, 18, and his younger sister, 15, who are left unable to walk due to broken broken bones.

The family's mum, Ali, was left with nerve damage to her hands, meaning she cannot perform day-to-day tasks whilst looking after the two injured children, and is unable to start her new job as a veterinary surgeon.

Those who cannot attend the day of fun to help the Webber family can donate directly via the family's official fundraising page.
