A YOUNG man in a coma in hospital in Portugal can be flown back to the UK thanks to the incredible generosity of members of the public.

Finn Webber, 23, from Combwich, was seriously injured in a road traffic collision at the start of a family holiday in Portugal.

He was blue lighted to hospital unconscious having sustained multiple brain lesions 11 days ago.

His siblings Sam, 18, and Isobel, 15, are back in the family home, currently unable to walk due to broken bones. Another sister, Meg, is also home having sustained bruising.

They are with their mother, Alessia (Ali), who has sustained nerve damage to her hands and is unable to perform daily tasks.

Her husband Dan has remained in Portugal at Dan's hospital bedside.

Almost £50,000 has been raised to pay for Finn to be flown home for intensive care treatment at a Bristol hospital.

More than 1,000 people have so far responded to a fundraising appeal launched by family friend Iveta Lacy-Hulbert.

She said: "The Webber family are very much touched and overwhelmed by the support they are receiving from everyone.

"Just to know how many people care for Finn and for their family is helping them to feel stronger.

"Thank you very much to every single one of you, who made a donation and sent messages.

"Finn is currently awaiting an ICU unit in Bristol and once the transfer is possible, it can now be arranged, all thanks to your support.

"Those who know the Webbers personally, know how kind, generous and supportive they are towards other people and always help those in need."

The collision in Portugal happened on a dual carriageway after Ali made an emergency stop to avoid an accident ahead of the car she was driving.

Dan, who was behind in another car, pulled up behind but was slammed into the back of Ali's car after being hit by an oil tanker.

Two friends travelling with the Webbers were also injured.
