Torquay United Ladies 2 Middlezoy Rovers Ladies 2

THIS was top versus bottom at Bovey Tracey but Middlezoy came away with their first point of the season.

They found themselves a goal down after two minutes, when a ball over the top of the defence caught them out and a Torquay ran through to put them ahead.

Torquay had a few half chances, before Abi Locke hit the bar from distance and Rosie Williams missed a glorious chance from close range.

However, after 20 minutes, Torquay went further ahead when a fierce shot was well saved by Rovers' keeper Faye Edwards, but the rebound was forced in from close range.

Despite that setback, Rovers came back and Williams and Anusia Rourke had shots well saved.

On 40 minutes Rovers got back into the game - an excellent passing move from the back to the front saw Rosie Williams smash the ball home from close range.

The second-half started slowly with both sides unable to create much.

After 60 minutes Devon Rich went on a run and beat four players before squaring the ball to Williams to put away from close in, bringing Rovers level.

After that the game got physical with Torquay receiving cautions, but Torquay should have won the game four minutes from time when a free header was missed.

Rourke, Williams and Rich had late shots on target but a draw was probably the right result. This was an excellent effort by the Middlezoy Ladies and hopefully this is the start of a move up the table.

Next week the Ladies are away to Downend Ladies who are currently one place above Rovers - kick off is 2pm.

The Middlezoy Ladies are still looking for new players and any lady over 16 years of age who would like to play for Middlezoy would be welcome to attend training at Bridgwater College astro pitch on Tuesday nights from 7.30pm until 9pm.
