TWO brothers from Chilton Trinity have both successfully earned the right to wear the Somerset Shirt in Indoor Athletics following a series of trails throughout the county.

Louis and William Stokes attended trials at Yeovil College in their respective age groups, before being selected to represent Somerset.

For Louis, aged 9, this was his first opportunity to compete at county level, and after a hard fought trial he managed to secure a place in the Somerset under 11 boys team competing at Wellsway School Sports Centre in Keynsham. With stiff competition from Avon and Gloucester, Louis always knew that his first competition would be about gaining the experience with some competitors two years his senior.

He said "It was a great day, with lots of noise as I never thought there would be so many people watching me.

“I enjoyed the events that I did and maybe next year, if I am lucky enough to be selected, I can really push for a medal.”

For William, aged 12, it was his third successive year of being selected for Somerset, but this time he had moved up to the under 13 age group.

Securing a place in the Somerset under 13 boys team meant that he had to really push the limits of his capability to even stay with the competition.

The South West Regional Final was held at Torbay Leisure Centre in Paignton, with competition coming from Cornwall, Dorset & a very strong Devon team.

Will said: "I was really excited about moving up an age group and showing my coaches that I was able to compete at this level.”
