WEMBDON'S Tom Lott was the hero on Saturday as he took the final Burnham wicket in match's penultimate over to seal a dramatic tie.

Lott (2-23) held his nerve to clean bowled the final Burnham batsmen with just one more run required for victory.

Earlier, Wembdon skipper Jenkins had won the toss and elected to bat first and this proved to be a bad decision as he went for nought in the second over.

Lowe (6) and Lott (9) didn't last too much longer as Wembdon were reduced to 25 for 3.

Phil Curd (27) Paul Goss (10) and Duncan Wardle (22) hung around for a while and moved the scoreboard on, but after they fell, Wembdon didn't have a lot to offer and were bowled out for 106 in the 44th over.

With such a low total on the board, Wembdon needed to pick up early wickets and did exactly that as Paul Goss (6-28) wiped out four of their top five in his first spell.

Mike Watts claimed another wicket to leave Burnham 35 for 5, but a 35-run partnership between Tipler (22) and Smith (17), swayed the game in Burnham's favour.

With time running out Goss returned and struck immediately. Watts (2-22) then returned and claimed another wicket to leave Burnham needing 18 to win with just one wicket remaining.

A good over from Burnham left them needing one run with two overs remaining, but Lott clean bowled Green with his first ball to tie the game.

Wembdon face top of the table Kilve next week in a massive title clash.
