WEMBDON II came out on the winning side of a thrilling match on Saturday, as they crept home by just one wicket against North Perrott.

Winning the toss, Wembdon elected to bowl first and a good opening spell from Pete Gliddon (1-28) put early pressure on Perrott.

Runs were hard to come by in the first 25 overs and wickets were falling at regular intervals, with Dan Buller (2-27) bowling particularly well. But some good middle-order batting, together with some wayward bowling let Perrott get back into the game as they reached 150 with nine overs remaining. Carwyn Jenkins (2-15) and Tom Lott (2-21) bowled the final overs, taking four wickets for only 30 runs to leave Perrott with a competitive total of 186.

In reply, Wembdon got off to a great start with openers George Lowe (57) and Jenkins (34) putting on a partnership of 80 for the first wicket inside 20 overs. The wicket of Jenkins perked Perrott and wickets began to fall, with the run out of Lott (23) looking pivotal. With 45 required and six wickets remaining, Wembdon looked to be cruising. But a flurry of wickets turned the game on its head, leaving the final pairing of Gliddon and Buller needing five to win. Gliddon took control and hit the winning runs off with the penultimate ball to seal a hard-fought victory for Wembdon.
