Roger Stone Memorial Cup
Wells City Under-18s 0, Bridgwater Town 3
BRIDGWATER Town’s Under-18s have beaten 32 teams across the South West to pick up the Roger Stone Memorial Cup in the final against Wells City.
It is only the second time the team have managed to win the trophy, the first being in 2000/01, until they beat Wells 3-0 last week.
The first half saw Bridgwater have the majority of possession and Lee Villis scored their first goal after a volley from the edge of the box.
Wells City grew with confidence in the second half, however Bridgwater centre backs Connor O’Neill and Josh Lewis, along with defensive midfielder Jack Reed remained refocused and calm, denying the Wells City attack.
In the last 20 minutes captain Callum Kennelly scored Bridgwater’s second goal of the evening, after reacting first inside the six yard box to tuck away into the bottom corner.
This left Wells City upping their attack, which left themselves open to a fast-paced counter attack, where Lewis Hembery finished the move with a powerful shot from outside the box with only a few minutes remaining.
Manager Sam Reilly said: “I am delighted for the players, they have shown a great deal of commitment and dedication this season and this is their reward.”
