Somerset Senior Cup second round

Congresbury 3 Bridgwater Town Reserves 0

BRIDGWATER Town reserve team manager Luke Buckingham was left to rue a number of missed chances by his side as they slipped to a 3-0 cup exit at Congresbury.

Town had two goals disallowed for offside, and despite creating numerous opportunities they were unable to register a legitimate goal – Buckingham said it just wasn’t their day.

He said: “We just couldn’t get the goal we needed early on when we had the pressure on them.

“I think we’d still be there now trying to score if I’m honest.

“I felt we were much the better side in the first half and played well in stages in the second, but once they went 2-0 up we went all out attack with three at the back and got caught out a little.”

The Robins dominated the opening exchanges and created a number of good chances, but were denied by a combination of the woodwork and the linesman’s flag.

Having not been in the game, Congresbury took the lead early in the second half courtesy of a well-worked move, and they struck again shortly after as Town were caught out trying to play from the back.

With 20 minutes left on the clock, Town searched for an opening and a way back into the game, but Congresbury took advantage of their attacking mindset and put the game to bed with a third goal.
