Toolstation Western League Premier Division

Wellington 3, Bridgwater Town 1

A BELOW-PAR performance from Bridgwater Town allowed Wellington to complete a league double in a damp Good Friday derby.

Wellington had prevailed 2-0 in filthy conditions earlier in the season at Fairfax Park and they flew out the traps in the rematch, hitting the crossbar on 17 minutes before opening the scoring moments later.

Bridgwater, whose best early effort came courtesy of a Jack Jenkins volley which was well saved, then gave away a penalty as Mike Duffy was guilty of a shirt pull in the area.

Ian Bellinger stepped up to dispatch the spot-kick and double the home side's advantage just shy of the half hour mark.

Jake Llewellyn fired over as the Robins looked for a response, with the visitors then grateful to goalkeeper Connor Sidley-Adams - returning to the club with whom he won the Western League First Division last season - as he made a fine save on the stroke of half-time.

With the game at 2-0 at the break the next goal would be crucial, and Wellington got it shortly after the restart courtesy of a fine finish from the edge of the box.

Town brought on Tom Llewellyn for Dave Pearse and the substitute had an instant impact, slotting home Jack Taylor's pass to reduce the arrears on 58 minutes.

Jenkins then saw a free-kick saved before Ryan Burrows had a header kept out, and Bridgwater's hopes were raised when Wellington were reduced to 10 men after a poor challenge with 18 minutes still to play.

The visitors lacked their usual fluency, however, and were left to reflect on a second consecutive defeat.

The Robins remain sixth but will hope for an improvement at Chipping Sodbury Town on Monday (2pm).
