Bridgwater Town Res 0, Middlezoy Rovers 1

JED Williams scored the only goal of the game as Middlezoy Rovers completed a double over local rivals Bridgwater Town Reserves.

In front of an excellent crowd of 224, Williams netted with 20 minutes to play as the visitors claimed the bragging rights on Thursday evening.

The first half was devoid of clear-cut chances, with Lewis Hembery coming close for the hosts before Callum Ham did well to keep out a close-range header at the other end.

Zoy passed up another big chance on the hour but were not to be denied shortly afterwards when Williams latched on to a through ball and lashed it into the roof of the net.

The hosts couldn't fashion a response as Zoy closed out the three points to cement their place in fifth - Town are 12th.

BRIDGWATER Town's first team are in Good Friday action at local rivals Wellington (1pm).

Town lost 2-0in the reverse fixture on Boxing Day but have been in fine form since, and player-manager Dave Pearse is hoping they can bounce back from Monday night's narrow defeat at Bridport.

Pearse said: “We owe then one from our last league game but it’s tough at their place and we have some players missing.

“We have to be targeting six points from our Easter games [Town play Chipping Sodbury on Monday] and be looking to finish as close to Melksham [currently second] as we can.

“We are 13 points off them at the moment but still have to play them twice, while they have some tough games coming up.”
