Southern League Division One S&W

Bridgwater Town 0 Swindon Supermarine 3

BRIDGWATER Town suffered an eight league defeat in 11 games when they were beaten 3-0 by Swindon Supermarine at Fairfax Park on Saturday.

Luke Hopper scored a hat-trick for the visitors, who have climbed to second with the win, while the Robins remain second from bottom in Southern league Division One South and West.

Kick-off was preceded by a very respectful minutes silence for Peter Deplege who sadly passed away on October 11.

Bridgwater Town began the game well and put together some neat passages of play in the first 20 minutes, with plenty of approving murmurs from the club’s loyal supporters surrounding the pitch.

Both teams had their chances in the opening quarter, but Marine went ahead on 27 minutes with a goal from striker Luke Hopper.

Town tried several times to test the Swindon keeper, but the visitors back four stood firm and were more than up for the challenge.

Their second goal came shortly before half-time, with Hopper applying the finishing touches to a good passing move.

Early in the second-half, Hopper forced Viney into a smart save when one-on-one with the Town keeper and Bridgwater began to put together some good passages of play.

But Swindon’s third goal arrived in the 65th minute with Hopper completing his hat-trick before celebrating with a young travelling supporter.

Town went close to getting on the score sheet in the closing stages, with both Ross McNab and Joey Fitzsimmons seeing their efforts drift wide of the post.

Unfortunately, that was as close as the home side came to scoring and the final whistle condemned Town to a 3-0 defeat.

Bridgwater Town host Marlow this weekend (October 24, 3pm) before travelling to Larkhall on October 28 (7.45pm).
