WEMBDON dropped down to fourth as they fell to a 41-run defeat against table-toppers Street on Saturday.

Street made a solid start before Brendan Pope trapped Matt Pope in front for 30.

Dan Bingham (3-30) took wickets regularly with support from Pope brothers Brendan and Will as Street were reduced to 100-6.

But a classy 60 from John Cox helped Street claw their way up to 203 – a total which proved a winning one.

In reply, Street opening bowler Thomas Higgs tore through the top order to topple Tom Lott, Sam Puddy and Mike Eele and reduce Wembdon to 16-3.

Martin Johnson (44) and Brendan Pope (26) rebuilt the innings but they were left with an uphill battle.

At 110-5, the game was evenly poised but two wickets from Michael Higgs and Andrew Bartlett, who dismissed the dangerous Prakash Joshi earlier on, put pay to Wembdon’s chances and they ran out of overs on 162-9.
