SIX wickets from Nathan Barnard helped Middlezoy storm to a six-wicket win at Cheddar in Division 1e of the Somerset Cricket League.

Cheddar were routed for 73 thanks to superb spells from Barnard (6-24) and James Peacock (3-10) and then Marc Troman polished off the job with a classy 38 to round off their third win of the season.

In Division 2, North Newton came out of top in a mouth-watering match against Stogumber after posting 113 with several batsman scoring in the teens.

But 5-24 from Peter Jenkins stalled the home side as they fell one run short on 112.

Bridgwater A fell to a three-wicket defeat at home to Westlands in Division 3. Dan Andison top scored with 46 in Bridgwater’s total of 177 and Mike Skidmore claimed 4-34 in reply but despite his efforts Westlands clawed over the winning line.

In Division 4, a swashbuckling 116 not out from Andrew Martin helped spearhead Kilve to victory over Wembdon 2nds as they chased down 198 for the loss of only four wickets.

Wembdon had posted a commanding total, thanks to half-centuries from G. Lowe (52) and A. Phillips (84 not out).

In Division 6, Bridgwater Sports fell to a demoralising eight-wicket loss over Hardington and West Coker after being bowled out for a below-par 92. In reply, the visitors chased down the runs with ease with M. Winter and D. Russell picking up the only wickets.

North Petherton 2nds suffered defeat against All Saints in Division 8S. A. Jones top scored with 60 as Pethy hit 108 but, despite three wickets from S. Briffet (3-30), the visitors won by four wickets.

Middlezoy 2nds tied with Burnham 2nds in a thrilling encounter. Middlezoy posted 208-9 with G. Purchase top scoring on 55 but three wickets from Nathan Peppard in reply helped to stall the visitors and they drew level off the last ball.

Five wickets from James Hedges (5-28) helped Chilton Polden 1sts to skittle Taunton Deane Crusaders for 61 in reply to Chilton’s 154. Nick Dobbs top scored for Chilton with 53.

Wembdon Wyverns fell just short against Spaxton after they ended one run shy in reply. Spaxton hit 128 after a superb spell from M. Hubbard (6-25) restricted the home side.

But all the Spaxton bowlers chipped in to make the chase hard work for Wembdon and it needed a gritty 28 from Phil Morrish to ensure his side crawled over the winning line.

In Division 9NW, Chilton Polden 2nds versus Huntspill and District 2nds was cancelled due to the weather.
