SWIMMER Charlie Attwood has gone to new lengths to break his personal record in the Sainsbury’s School Games at the London Aquatics Centre.
The 14-year-old struck gold in the 100m breaststroke with a time of 1:06.86 which beat his nearest rival for the top of the podium by more than two seconds.
Atwood, a Chilton Trinity Technology College student, could barely hide his delight at producing the goods in front of thousands of supporters in his only race of the day.
He said: “It was amazing to win and I wasn’t really expecting to do the time I did and swim as well as I did.
“It was a really fast swim and a one second pb so that was good and the medal was a bit of a bonus.
“The day as a whole was really good – competing at the pool was just amazing.”
