SYDENHAM ABC’s Antony Collins lost a narrow points decision in the final of the county round of the CYP championships in Wells, in the under 57kg weight.

Against last year’s finalist, Kane Stewart, from Bristol’s Broad Plain ABC, Collins used his reach to catch his opponent with some combinations in round one.

In the second, Stewart stepped up the pace and produced some solid body punches; Collins responded with some long straight jabs.

The third round was all-action, with both fighters producing great combinations to head and body, but the decision went to Stewart.

Collins is now attending the boxing academy in Filton College, which is run by ex-world champions Glen Catley and Barry McGuigan.

Also in action, at the Downend Show in Bristol, was Simon Piascik, who stepped in as a replacement in the 62kg weight against 15-year-old Caine Rolfe from Downend ABC.

The first round featured good combos and defence from both fighters.

The second featured more power punches, with Piascik landing one which forced a standing count on Rolfe.

In the third, the two tired fighters slugged it out and both were caught with solid hooks to the head.

The judges awarded a majority decision to Piascik.

Sydenham ABC is holding an open show with all its boxers at Chilton Technology College on November 20, starting at 8pm.
