South West 1 West
Okehampton 36, North Petherton 10

NORTH Petherton remain in trouble at the wrong end of the South West 1 West standings, after losing at Okehampton on Saturday.

The hosts shot into a 12-0 lead, with tries from Dean Abrams and Kieran Lee, but then Pethy hit back.

Charlie Green sprinted through the home defence to score in the corner, with Harry Roberts converting and also adding a penalty.

That made it 12-10 at half time, but the second period was all about Okehampton, as they made the game safe with further tries from Tom McGratton, Luke Honeychurch and Lee with his second.

The result saw Okehampton leapfrog Bridgwater & Albion for second spot, and it leaves Pethy 12th in the table, with only Cullompton and Coney Hill below them.

And so they will be looking to make home advantage count this coming Saturday, when they host St Ives, who are currently in sixth place in the standings.

Somerset 2 South
Morganians 27, Chard 2nds 19

MORGANIANS came out on top of a close contest with Chard 2nds at Chedzoy Lane last Saturday.

Morgs’ win, by eight points, sees them move up to sixth in the table.

This Saturday they go to Martock, who are currently eighth.

In Somerset 1, Bridgwater & Albion 2nd XV suffered a heavy loss at Cheddar Valley, going down 50-14 to their hosts.

Eighth in the standings, Albion go to Chew Valley 2nds this Saturday.

Albion’s 3rds were unable to raise a side to host Martock, and so they are now on -10 points at the bottom of Somerset 2 South; they are due to entertain Winscombe 2nds on Saturday.

CLASH: North Petherton's Hamish Braine-Clarke in action against Weston U13s.

Wiveliscombe U16s 24, North Petherton U16s 37

THE Pethy Under-16s gave a great demonstration of rugby away to a decent Wiveliscombe team.

Petherton dominated the game for long periods, and their seven-try haul came from six different scorers.

The pick of them was an outstanding solo effort from Oliver Haliday; the other try scorers were Alex Stevens, Luke Hall, Harry Saunders, Cam Brown and Joe Redman (2).

North Petherton U13s 5, Weston-super-Mare U13s 25

A MUCH-CHANGED side led to a disorganised display against a well-drilled Weston-super-Mare team at the weekend.

The Mighty Oaks started well but then leaked several cheap tries.

Debutant and subsequent man of the match Mark Hallet displayed some excellent runs and with ball in hand was able to make the hard yards that brought the Mighty Oaks close to the opposition line on a number of occasions.

After one burst, Bryn Reeves attempted a chip and chase that was rather fortuitously grounded by Zak Calladine.

With captain Ben Giles returning from injury, the Mighty Oaks were in good spirits; their next game is at Burnham RFC on Sunday, October 28.

North Petherton Minis and Juniors are always looking for new players from 5-18 years of age with any experience and or ability.
