Odd Down Reserves 0, Middlezoy Rovers 0

ON a chilly day and snow-covered pitch, it was always going to be a game where the team showing the most desire would claim the spoils.

Visitors Middlezoy started very well and moved the ball with surprising ease on the sticky surface, but they lost Craig Wright to injury on 10 minutes.

Their first attempt came after good work from Callum Laird, Dan Luce and Adam Long, with the ball being pulled back for Jamie Temlett to hit a 25-yard drive which the Odd Down keeper did well to prevent finding the top corner.

Zoy continued to enjoy plenty of possession, but they couldn’t find the killer pass in the final third.

The home side, having sat deep in the first half, pressed Middlezoy higher up the pitch after the restart, though their more physical approach brought a few yellow cards.

Odd Down were playing on the break and almost took the lead after a lapse in defence from the visitors, but Ryan Brewer cleared off the line.

Zoy still bossed possession but with little reward, the only incident of note being a 16-man exchange of handbags following a heavy challenge.

The referee kept everyone on the pitch, but nonetheless the game ended in a 0-0 stalemate.

Man of the match honours were shared by Andy Smith and Alex Male.

The point keeps Zoy in fifth with eight games still to play this season - this weekend, they travel to Nailsea United.

Shirehampton 3, Bridgwater Town Reserves 0

TEN-MAN Bridgwater Town Reserves were beaten on the road by sixth-placed Shirehampton.

George Brimson opened the scoring for the hosts in the second half and Town’s chances of getting back into were dented when Max Cattle was sent off following an off the ball incident.

Two goals in the final five minutes secured the three points for the hosts, with Scott Bamford and Jack Stewart finding the net.

Town’s second string sit 10th in the table with 26 points from 24 matches - the first of their eight remaining fixtures is away to Wrington Redhill on Saturday.

An Easter weekend of derbies follows, with the reserves at Ilminster on Saturday, March 31 before hosting Middlezoy Rovers on Easter Monday (April 2).
