NORTH Petherton suffered their seventh league defeat of the season on Saturday, away to fourth-placed Thornbury.

The hosts led 10-0 at half time, but although Carl Brownthen scored a try for the away side, converted by Harry Auton, it was one-way traffic from there as Thornbury completed an eight-try win that leaves Pethy third from bottom in the table.

This coming Saturday, Pethy host Okehampton, who are fifth.

ALBION 2nds were dealt a beating by leaders Wiveliscombe on Saturday.

It means the visitors remain bottom of the league, ahead of next weekend’s match at home to eighth-placed Nailsea & Backwell.

NORTH Petherton 2nd XI came out on top in a high-scoring affair against Wellington 2nds, with tries coming from captain Mathew Holloway, Connor Doyle, Lee Briffett and Charlie Johnson (2).

This Saturday, Pethy – 10th in the table – go to seventh-placed Crewkerne.

Morganians 75, Old Bristolians 7

MORGANIANS welcomed Old Bristolians this week for their first ever visit to Chedzoy Lane.

The home side got off to a good start as Gavin Hancock raced through a gap to score his first of five tries, and Sam Bullion converted his first of 10 conversions from 11 attempts.

The second score came soon after, as Stef Pierce bulldozed his way over from close range, before Hancock’s second made brought up 21-0.

After OBs got on the scoreboard, James Walpole raced over for the bonus-point try, and Bullion made it 28-7 at half time.

The second period was a lot more one-sided, as Hancock added three more tries, with Sam Bate, debutant Alex Hales and Bullion also crossing.

The try of the day was finished by Jack Criddle, after a tremendous team move from their own 22.

Morgs – now sixth in the table – go to Old Sulians next Saturday.

Bridgwater & Albion 3rds 26, Burnham-on-Sea 2nds 39

THE Albion 3rd XI lost out to visitors Burnham, whose youthful team coped much better with the blustery conditions than their hosts. 

Albion sit 10th in the standings, ahead of this Friday’s match at Chard 2nds.

STACEY Saunders scored five tries in North Petherton Ladies’ thumping 82-0 victory over Chard on Sunday.

Claire Hancock chipped in with four, while Tamzin Reis-Day, Amy Clark, Jade Miller, Janet Dyer and Rosalind Forbes also went over.
