BRIDGWATER Town boss Craig Laird has asked for patience as he attempts to guide ailing Bridgwater Town back to winning ways.

The Robins are yet to taste victory this season, drawing one and losing three of their first four games in Southern League Division One South & West.

Meanwhile on Saturday, they were dumped out of the FA Cup after a crushing 6-0 home defeat by Plymouth Parkway and took their goals conceded tally to 16 in just three games.

“We’ve just shown a lack of experience and youthfulness and, unfortunately, it’s costing us dearly,” admitted Laird.

“We’ve been punished in both boxes; we’re conceding lots of goals and, at the other end, we don’t seem to be taking our chances. We’ve been poor in both boxes.

“But we’ve got plenty of time; we’ve come in before pre-season started and lost virtually the whole team as well from last season, so we’ve had to rebuild right from the start.

"It’s a difficult period, but we’ll get through it, we’ll be fine but it’ll take a bit of time and, unfortunately, we’re getting heavily beaten.

“It is early days and I don’t want to keep making excuses, you’ve got to give credit to the opposition as well, they’ve taken their chances.

“We don’t have the biggest budget and it’s difficult for everyone but I back myself and, in time, we will get it right. It’s just going to take a bit longer than we would’ve hoped.”

With the games coming thick and fast, Laird must now prepare his side for their trip to local rivals Taunton Town on Saturday.

“Derby matches don’t generally take any getting up for,” he said.

“I’ve played in them and managed a couple now and it doesn’t matter where you are in the league top or bottom, it doesn’t matter, it’s just a one-off,

"They are weird games – you could be bottom and win it.”
