Errea County Division 1W

Staplegrove 4, Middlezoy Rovers 3

MIDDLEZOY’S nine-game unbeaten run came to a harsh end on Saturday at Staplegrove following defeat to the odd goal in seven.

A slow start proved crucial with the hosts scoring twice within the opening two minutes and, despite clawing themselves back into the game, the home side won it late on.

Middlezoy’s first chance came on 20 minutes but Craig Wright’s strike was ruled out for offside.

Dan Luce was bought down in the area moments later but the referee waved away appeals.

Zoy deservedly pulled one back early in the second half from the head of Carl Tucker and were soon level when Craig Wright slotted home for his 18th goal of this campaign.

On the hour mark, and with the visitors dominating the game, a goalkeeping error allowed Staplegrove to retake the lead.

Lance Turner looked to have secured Middlezoy a point with 15 minutes left when he stroked the ball into the corner.

With Middlezoy pushing on for a deserved winner, they were stunned inside the final minutes of the game when more slack defending allowed a Staplegrove forward time to pick his spot from 10 yards.
