Somerset County Division One

Middlezoy Rovers 3, Castle Cary 2

A LATE goal from Mike Southgate turned one point into three for Middlezoy as they pinched a 3-2 victory over Castle Cary on Saturday.

The sides went in goalless at half-time despite the home side creating a number of chances – Tom Brown, Lance Turner and Dan Luce all wasted good opportunities.

Early in the second half, Castle Cary took the lead when a penalty was conceded by Lance Turner.

The ball was rolled past Steve Baker for the opener, but Baker was on hand to prevent Middlezoy falling further behind with a terrific point blank save minutes later.

This sprung Middlezoy into life and they were level almost immediately. Mike Southgate turned and finished well after good work from Jamie Temlett in midfield.

Andy Smith gave the hosts the lead on 61 minutes, calmly slotting home.

Back came Castle Cary with a brilliant pitch-length solo goal from Dan Cannings, but with three minutes remaining Damon Jennings found Luce in centre midfield, who found Steve Hall out wide who beat his man and delivered it on a plate for Southgate to get his second of the game and secure the points for Middlezoy.

Middlezoy entertain Clevedon United on Wednesday in a 6.30 kick-off. Support would be welcome with free admission.
