Somerset County League Division 2W

Winscombe 1, Middlezoy Rovers 2

MIDDLEZOY Rovers remain at the top of the league table but were forced to dig deep for three points away at Winscombe.

Middlezoy took the lead on ten minutes when Craig Wright finished well into the bottom corner from 18 yards.

Wright doubled his tally five minutes later with an instinctive headed finish from a Damon Jennings pass.

Unfortunately for Middlezoy, Wright was then carried off the pitch with concussion after a clash of heads.

The home side managed to find a breakthrough from a set piece on 35 minutes and that was the end of the action in the first half.

Middlezoy defended solidly during the second half to maintain their lead, but in truth both sides were not helped by the dreadful playing surface. The defensive display was epitomised by man of the match Shaun Turner who led the back four well all afternoon.

This result stretches Middlezoy's winning streak to 12 games in all competitions.

Middlezoy entertain Weston St Johns next Saturday and the match is free admission. Kick-off is 2.30pm.

Team: Baker, Bone, Sh Turner, Sc Turner, Whaites (Williams), Jennings (L Turner), Smith, Luce, Wright (Peppin), Atyeo, Hall.
