SPEEDING drivers putting people at risk along a ‘cut through’ are being urged to slow down.
The appeal to take more care and heed signs put up following road closures for flood protection works on the Somerset Levels and Moors has gone out to motorists.
Villagers have complained about speeding vehicles and lorries using the A361 at Burrowbridge towards Langport, passing through Stathe and Wicke.
Drivers are using the route following the closure of Aller Drove for Environment flood protection works.
Somerset County Council has now installed signs reminding motorists to keep to the speed limit and that the road is unsuitable for HGVs.
Cllr Harvey Siggs said: “These are essential works that will help protect homes in the event of flooding.
“We understand that road closures add time to journeys, but that is no excuse for ignoring signs and jeopardising people’s safety.
“I would urge motorists to drive carefully and appreciate that the concerns of local residents who use this road, sometimes on foot.”
The work along Aller Drove is due to be completed by the middle of next month.
