A FORMER Bridgwater College student has launched his engineering career in spectacular style with a job on the UK tour of Sally Morgan, Star Psychic.

Dave Sims, who completed the Extended Diploma in Production Arts in July, secured the position of engineer on the show within weeks of leaving college, and will be touring to large venues all over the UK, operating a video camera and assisting with sound checks. At college, Dave learned all aspects of lighting, sound and stage management, and even had the opportunity to work with The Stranglers, all of which provided excellent preparation for his new role.

Dave, 18, from Bridgwater, said: “It's great to be able to work in a wide variety of different theatres. It's a lot of travelling all the time but the work itself is really interesting.

"I feel incredibly lucky to have been offered a full-time job in the industry so shortly after leaving college.”

Jenny Ashworth, section leader for music and performing arts, said: “Dave worked incredibly hard at college and achieved a distinction overall for his BTEC.

"Securing this job so soon after leaving us really is testament to his efforts and to the staff here who supported and taught him over the past two years.”
