A NEW group of charity volunteers are looking for new members to help improve and conserve the Wembdon Parklands.

The aim of the Wembdon Parklands and Community Together group is to provide a recreational facility of a woodland and nature trail which will include low-level play equipment, some new fencing and gates that will ensure dogs can be let off-lead, and children are safe from the main road.

There will be pathways leading to seating and picnic tables which will be accessible to wheelchair users. And finally, planting of trees, sensory borders and a meadowland.

The plan is to rejuvenate and create a safer public Parkland to enhance the health and well-being of the whole community and to give opportunities to socialise, thus enhancing the community spirit now, and for our future generations to come.

To be able to achieve this the group have applied for funding from national companies and are holding fundraising events. This includes a Charity Auction and Ball which will be held in Wembdon Village Hall on April 21 from 6.30pm until midnight.

There will be live music with the local band “the man from funkle”, a three-course dinner including wine, the main auction, a silent auction, raffle, a photography booth, bar, DJ and disco.

Prizes up for grabs include a holiday in Spain, a champagne hot air balloon ride, a bike, sporting memorabilia, meal at a local restaurant and much more.

Tickets are on sale now for £30 per person and are being offered in groups of 11 guests per table.
