LONG-AWAITED improvement works to Bridgwater’s town centre could start in the summer of 2018, if planning permission is granted later in the spring.

Members of Bridgwater’s Town Development Forum were given a presentation by staff from Sedgemoor District Council yesterday which showed what is planned and gave them an opportunity to ask questions about the scheme.

A spokesperson for Sedgemoor District Council said: “As one part of the Bridgwater Town Centre Support Project, the £130,000 improvement scheme to Fore Street and High Street will see de-cluttering and freshening up of street furniture such as seats, lamp posts and cycle racks.

“There will also be updating and improved signage and replacement of dying and diseased trees, as well as reconfiguring of the raised area at West Quay - all intended to create an improved environment and experience for town centre visitors.

“The architectural lighting of Town Bridge will also follow in the summer.”
