A CANNINGTON army cadet who has shown a knack for target shooting has been invited to take part in a special marksmanship course in Canada.

Kezaya Nichols, 15, will be heading to Connaught in Canada in July to represent the UK Cadets during the Royal Canadian Army Cadet Forces six-week exchange programme.
Kezaya joined the Cannington Platoon three years ago and after taking part in a target shooting taster weekend, she immediately took to the sport.

In 2017 she went on to represent the Army Cadet Force in an international event where she won the prestigious Cadet Imperial competition. Kez is part of a 14 strong team of Army Cadets from across the country who will be heading to Canada this summer.

Kez will be following in the footsteps of her older brother who is now serving in the Royal Signals at Blandford Camp. She is hoping to complete the same course of study and ultimately join the British Army.

Lance Corporal Kez Nichols said: “Going to Canada will help to improve my shooting consistency. Hopefully I’ll come back with some medals, I’m really looking forward to it. Army Cadets has given me discipline, leadership and definitely improved my confidence.”

Lieutenant Mark Bridges, battalion shooting officer added: “Kez has worked hard to the discipline and has become a very competent shot.”
