In this week's column DJ Dave Englefield from Sedgemoor FM ponders driving through thick fog and misheard lyrics.

It’s been quite foggy at times in the mornings over the last few days. I like looking through the fog as it adds a little bit of mystery to the world. I don’t like driving in it so much, although the worst fog I ever encountered was about thirty years ago.

I was driving through Essex and the fog was so thick you couldn’t see the end of the bonnet on the car, let alone the kerb at the side of the road.

That still didn’t stop some from driving recklessly and way too fast for the conditions, and in one case, with no lights on. I found that scarier than the actual effort required to drive.

Please remember to adjust your speed and journey times as the weather worsens and use your fog lights at appropriate times. Just make sure you turn them off again afterwards as that is another pet hate. I’ll save that for another day.

We were chatting in the studio recently about misheard lyrics. We have all, at some time or another, thought a line from a song said something only to find what they are singing is something completely different.

For example, in the big 1980s hit by the Cutting Crew it really does sound as though they sing “I just died in your arms tonight, it must have been some kind of cheese”.

Or, in another big 80s hit, Kelly Marie sings “I need a shave” in the song “Feels Like I’m In Love”. Take a listen next time they come on the radio and you’ll hear what I mean. Sadly, once heard it’s what will always spring to mind every time you hear it. There are plenty more but I’ll leave you to discuss that amongst yourselves.
