BRIDGWATER MP Ian Liddell-Grainger has shown his support for a popular charity shop in the town.

Ian Liddell-Grainger met with CLIC Sargent shop volunteers including Les Verrachia who has been volunteering for five years, along representatives from the cancer charity for children and young people, at the Bridgwater shop in Eastover.

Mr Liddell-Grainger said: “It was a pleasure to visit the CLIC Sargent shop in Bridgwater and I was delighted to meet the dedicated volunteers who give up so much of their time to make the shop what it is and to raise funds for the charity.

"Most of us cannot even begin to imagine how difficult and tough life must be for children and young people whose world is torn apart when they diagnosed with cancer and charities like CLIC Sargent provide a tremendous support network for them and for their families as they fight this dreadful disease.

"CLIC Sargent can only continue providing vital help to these young people and their families if they are able to raise the necessary funds to do so. They are a great example of why it is important to support local causes like this and I hope people in this constituency will continue to support them.”

Last year, CLIC Sargent supported 97 children and young people with cancer in Somerset, and their families. The charity gave 76 grants, to a value of more than £16,000, to help families deal with the financial impact of cancer.

Joanne Fox, CLIC Sargent shop manager, said: “It was great to have our MP come down to show his support and raise vital awareness. This was also an opportunity to highlight the brilliant work our volunteers do by giving up their time.

“I hope more local people are inspired to come see the shop and donate. All the money raised will help CLIC Sargent in our fight for young lives against cancer, so we can support more young cancer patients and their families from the point of diagnosis.”
