Bridgwater and West Somerset MP, Ian Liddell-Grainger, has backed the renewal of the UK's Trident nuclear weapons system.
The House of Commons has voted to approve it, by 472 votes to 117.
The MPs' vote approves the manufacture of four replacement submarines at a current estimated cost of £31bn.
Mr Liddell-Grainger sais: "I am supporting this.
"I am ex-army and I know what a dangerous world we live in.
"You only have to see what happened in Nice- people need to realise you cannot do that.
"Desperate people will do desperate things, and I am supporting the renewal of the UK's Trident nuclear weapons system."
