BRIDGWATER'S Hamp Estate Co-operative store has been sold and looks set to become a McColl's convenience store.
Last week the Co-op agreed the sale of 298 of its smaller food stores across the nation to McColl's for a total of £117m.
The Co-op will continue to trade immediately after the handover, expected to take place in November and all employees will TUPE transfer to McColl’s.
Steve Murrells, CEO of Co-op Food, said: “This announcement is completely in line with our strategy, as these stores did not allow us to provide a sufficiently compelling own-brand offer for our members going forwards.
"The proceeds will be re-invested to drive sustainable growth for our members and I’m delighted that all 3,808 colleagues will transfer to McColl’s on the same terms and conditions.”
