I sometimes wonder just what is going through parents minds when they name their children. I’m sure you’ve seen plenty of examples over the years but the latest oddity to surface is the name KVIIIlyn. How do you think that should be pronounced? Apparently, it’s Kaitlyn with the ait replaced by the Roman numerals for the number eight. You have to have sympathy for the child who, I suspect, may change the spelling of her name somewhere down the line. It’s a name that has been given to a newborn in Australia. When we were thinking up names for our twins we were extremely careful to make sure that even the initials couldn’t spell a word, unlike my parents who didn’t realise what my initials would be by giving me the middle name Ian. I’ll leave you to work that one out.

Long term regular listeners to my radio shows over the years will know that I regularly have musical guests on from the stars of the sixties through to today’s hitmakers. Later this summer I’ll be catching up with Jon Brennan from the Ivy League ahead of this year’s Sensational 60s Experience which, as always, features a brilliant lineup which I’ll talk about in future weeks. However, the reason for mentioning the Ivy League is that they announced in the last few days that they are retiring at the end of this tour.

Finally, the answer to last week’s teaser: What did we get in Bridgwater for the first time in 1468? We got our first mayor. This week’s teaser is this, the annual Bridgwater Flower Show returns in August to the Town Hall but when was the first one? No cheating, I’ll give you the answer in next week’s column. Have a great week.
