PUPILS studying food technology at Bridgwater College were given the opportunity to attend the judging for the annual Taste of the West Awards.

Held at Westpoint in Exeter, the local event supports the food and drink industry and has done foe 25 years.

The group who attended were French students who are studying a 12 month course.

They were involved in the judging of categories including Sweet and Savoury Bakery Products, which consisted of a selection of local businesses.

Julie Harris, course leader for food technology at Bridgwater College, said, “This was a great opportunity for the students to be a part of this prestigious event and experience the high standard of products that are produced here in the south west.

"The experience helped the group understand and appreciate what the judges are looking for in a product and what every food manufacturer should be striving to achieve.

"For them to take part and give their views on packaging, taste, texture and appearance on a wide variety of products has been a real privilege."
