A GROUP of Bridgwater College students jetted off to Los Angeles as part of their foundation degree in media production.

The trip included a visit to both the Oscars and the Golden Raspberry Awards, as well as gathering outside the Dolby Theatre to celebrate Leonardo Di Caprio’s long awaited best actor Oscar win.

The group were also able to witness the world of TV production at Warner Bros Studio, where they joined an audience for The Real, a celebrity panel show, as well as meeting the director and senior producer, Adam Spiegelman.

Pupils enjoyed a visit to Hollywood Walk of Fame and the Chinese Theatre, a bicycle ride along Venice Beach, and seeing the Griffith observatory, Hollywood sign and China Town up close.

Alan Hardcastle, course leader for media production at Bridgwater College, said: "The aim of the trip was to investigate media production methods in America, a country that revolutionised the industry through mass media, and became a dominant cultural source for popular entertainment."

Student, Chloe Barnes, said: "This was my first American visit; it definitely lived up to expectations, being able to immerse myself in such a vibrant culture and to see first-hand how the media drives celebrity’s was fascinating.”
