Students from Bridgwater College warmly welcomed primary school children from the local area for a sports training afternoon.

The event was run in partnership with the Somerset Activity and Sports Partnership, better known as SASP.

More than 100 school children attended the afternoon, from schools including Eastover, West Huntspill and East Huntspill.

Students studying the level two coaching football in community settings course helped run the training afternoon by putting on eight different football sessions based on skills such as passing, shooting and dribbling and small sided games.

The event gave the students a chance to experience coaching in the community and allowed them to plan, deliver and review sessions that will help them to prepare for their FA level one coaching qualification they will complete as part of their course.

Coaching student Tyler White, from Cheddar, said: "The day was really good, it challenged us as coaches to adapt our sessions quickly to make it work better in that situation. "Coaching children this age developed us as coaches by giving us a better experience as this is who we will be coaching when gain employment after the course."

Nancy Murdoch, schools games organiser at SASP, said: "The students did an excellent job of leading and coaching the school children, there was a fantastic range of activities and fun games and the school children had a great time."
