THE son of a man who has been left fighting for his life after a brutal assault has appealed for the public to help find his dad’s attacker.

Garry Sutton, 59, remains in an induced coma at Bristol’s Frenchay Hospital following the assault near his home in Friarn Lawn, Bridgwater, around 11.30pm on Monday.

Mr Sutton had been drinking with friends in The Green Dragon and Three Lions pubs on Monday evening and was walking home when the attack happened.

His son, Sean, said: “My father was rushed to hospital to have a blood clot removed.

“It’s unlikely he will fully recover.

“It’s a shock. I went with my mother to the hospital and you can only imagine how distressed she is.

“I want people to come forward and identify the person who did this.

“There’s no motive that we can think of."

Garry Sutton, who also has a daughter, was brought up in Nether Stowey but has lived in Bridgwater for many years.

Avon and Somerset Police said there had been an excellent response to their appeal for information and said a car seen in the area around the time of the assault has now been traced.

They are continuing to appeal for information from anybody who may have witnessed the assault or seen anything earlier in the evening which could have led to the assault.

A police spokesman said this morning: "Investigations into the incident are ongoing. A man remains in a serious condition in hospital.

"Following our appeal, numerous people have come forward with helpful information.

"A silver car has been recovered, but the offender is still outstanding."

Anybody with information is urged to contact police on 101.
