A NORTH Petherton Carnival Club scooped second prize in its category despite a last-minute setback when the cart failed to meet police regulations.
Toppers’ Ceremonial Barge was over the legal weight limit after the club received a bigger generator than the one they ordered - but members put it right by using a second tractor.
The club went on to win second place in the Juvenile Cart category and is back on track for tonight’s Carnival after receiving a new generator.
Toppers Club chairman Marie Winn said: “We were gutted and all the children were crying. It had been a year’s work down the pan. But we got it sorted and got second, so we can’t complain. We had to put another tractor behind so we could be allowed to go through.
“The generator we received was bigger than the one we wanted. The company had made a mistake and we received the right one this morning at 8.30am. Hopefully things will run more smoothly tonight and all the hitches we had yesterday should be sorted.”
