CARNIVAL fun kicks off tonight in North Petherton and visitors have been promised a spectacular show.

After months of hard work and the introduction of new rules and regulations, organisers are ready for the fun to begin.

North Petherton Carnival president Eileen Brunton said: “It’s been very hard work this year but all the competitors do such a wonderful job that you can’t help but admire them.

“The Government kept coming up with new rules and regulations, mainly about health and safety, but we have overcome them and have just got on with it. We will be ready whatever happens.

“People are in for a great time. All the entrants have put their heart and soul into Carnival and the November displays are something you don’t see anywhere else in the country.

“It’s very difficult to explain to anybody what they are likely to see but it’s worth going and you’ll see a spectacular show which you don’t have to pay for.”

While the event is free, visitors can give donations to help keep the Carnival going.

Eileen added: “We know there’s a recession and money is tight but we hope people can dig deep in their pockets to guarantee a show next year.”

The North Petherton Carnival procession will start at 7pm with road closures in place from 5.30pm.
