Jubilee message from Ian Liddell-Grainger

Ian Liddell-Grainger Ian Liddell-Grainger

THE Jubilee has brought out the best in Bridgwater and West Somerset. Everyone, everywhere, seems to have got stuck in.

The long list of special street parties, concerts and events will make history in itself, and the really encouraging element is that people have worked their socks off in a common cause.

It has all been voluntary with no shortage of volunteers.

Even the few hardened republicans I come across admit that they have quite a lot of admiration for the Queen.

The important thing about this celebration is that it has reunited people.

The pace of our busy lives sometimes stops us getting to know our neighbours better.

That’s a real pity, and perhaps it needed a great once-in-a-lifetime effort to break the ice again.

People have forgotten the problems of the economy, brought out the Coronation chicken, wrapped themselves in red, white and blue, and celebrated the one thing Her Majesty is rightly famous for – the wave, and, above all, the smile!

He's still alive then!
Would be nice to have an MP that showed some interest in US.
Mr LG, we used to have a good community spirit in this country, then your Thatcher came along and destroyed it.
Your current incompetent leader says we're "all in it together" so, can you share some of your cash around please.

Perhaps if ILG got stuck in to answering his constituents e~mails and letters we would have an even better community spirit.

Unless our electoral system is faulty, Mr. L.G has been fairly elected by the people of this area. So we"ll just have to put up with him.

Why should we put with an MP who ignores his electorate? If he was fairly elected why does he treat his constituency unfairly? As for fair elections let's make voting compulsory, that way we would at least get what we elect instead of what one third to two thirds of us elect. This system works in other countries.A system like that might mean that some of the apathy of this country is shaken off.Would this mean the election of extremist parties? Not if we actually thought about what we wanted and who best represented that and voted for them. You never know, people may become interested in what is going on around them.Politics may be a dirty word but it should be done properly and should be seen to be done properly.

But he's not a Bridgwater mp is he, Bridgwater is a labour town.
13 of the 15 councillers in B/W are Labour.
It's the villages and the Minehead area that votes for a Tory.
LG knows this and this is why he shows NO interest in B/W.
We are a forgotten town, because we have no one whose willing to fight our corner in parliament.

We need some boundary changes in this area, or we will always have a dead duck Tory representing a Labour town.

If you meet the guy he greets you like a long last pal but the sad truth of the matter is that he is just not up to the job. I cannot think of anything of note that he has achieved since being the MP. He has failed miserably to build on the good cross party work that Tom King did over the years.

I couldn't agree more with awayswing, voting should be compulsory, then we would get an MP the majority wanted rather than the same old tory every time.

The truth of the matter is that whoever or whatever you put up (animal, vegetable or mineral) wearing a blue rosette would get elected regardless of how useless they were, its the yokels who have always voted tory no matter what they have done to the country that puts them in every time.

He's a career politician,he tried and failed to get elected in the North Devon constituency the election before he got in here.

He's any MP for himself not for US, he has done nothing for B/W, total waste of time.
You could have Mickey Mouse standing for the Tories in the villages around here and they would vote for him.
Fact!

Socialism.
It's a great thing until you run out of other people's money.

Under proper Socialism you don't need other people's money, the money is devided, people are more equal.
Rather than 5% of the British people owning 90% of the money.
Your obviously happy with that though!
Capitalism is working so well throughout the World though isn't it??!

Boring's point is well made.ILG is being handsomely paid, from public money, to treat his constituents with contempt. We are told that this sort of thing goes on only in countries with extremist governments.Democrac
y means a lot more than simply majority rule,it means listening to all points of view before making decisions and acting honestly. This may be a lot to expect but it is the system we are supposed to have.

ILG is so busy these days, running his cat's website and slagging off butterfly charities that he has to employ several members of his family to cope with the immense workload. Never mind - the taxpayer is footing the bill !

People say Bridgwater is a dead town.
People say that Bridgwater is Labour, but have a Conservative MP.
Why don't the Labour people move to a safe Labour seat and stop moaning.

Wow Hombre you certainly know how to muster an argument. I must remember that next time I disagree with someones views or opinions I just have to resort to suggesting they move away somewhere else!
