A BRIDGWATER man was killed after he was hit by a train yesterday.
The 47-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene north of Highbridge and Burnham station.
The train was the 8.44am Bristol Temple Meads to Plymouth service and police were called out at 9.06am.
A spokesman for the British Transport Police said the man’s identity had been confirmed and the death was not being treated as suspicious.
He said: “Officers from BTP and Avon and Somerset Police attended the railway line just north of Burnham-on-Sea railway station on Sunday, July 24, after a report that a man had been struck by a train.
“A crew from South West Ambulance Service also attended and the body of a man was located and pronounced dead at the scene.”
Officers are currently trying to trace the man’s next of kin. The West Somerset Coroner has been informed and enquiries are ongoing.
