A YOUNG man has described how he pulled three casualties free from an overturned car following a dramatic collision in Bridgwater.

Josh Ward, aged 21, was driving along the A39 near the Quantock Road Cemetery on Saturday night when he saw two cars involved in a collision ahead, which left one car on its roof in a ditch.

Josh, from Kilve, told the Mercury: “Everyone seemed OK in the first car at a glance, so I ran over to the one that was on its roof in a ditch.

“I helped three guys out of the rear window that had smashed in the roll.

“Two of them had cuts and there was blood everywhere.

“Then about three or four minutes later an ambulance turned up so I went back to the first car and helped two young girls out of their car.”

Another two women in that car, one suffering whiplash-like injuries and another with a pain in her neck, were cut free by firefighters.

In total, four people were taken to Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton with various injuries.

Josh added: “Seeing a crash happening right in front of me was very surreal.

“Instinct and adrenaline must have kicked in - I didn't really think about it at the time, I just did it.”

An 18-year-old man from the Highbridge area was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and has been released on bail.
