TWO Sedgemoor couples celebrated 60 years of marriage on the same day - but for one pair the day was memorable for a remarkable reunion.

Ron and Marion Stone, of Church Road, West Huntspill marked their diamond wedding anniversary with Ron's best man Roy Vearnacombe, and Marion's two blushing bridesmaids Jacqueline Vincent and Janet Crocker.

Ron said: “It was an excellent day and was made all the more memorable by having them all with us for a little gathering at our home.

“We also were sent a photo from the Queen which was very special and our only daughter Jennifer was able to come.

“And the nurses from Brunel Care who look after Marion as she has dementia bought us flowers and cards - that was a lovely gesture.”

Ron, 86, and Marion, 81, were married on March 24, 1951, at St Mary's Church in Bridgwater, and now have two grandsons and a two-year-old great-granddaughter.

Ron fought in Burma during the Second World War before running his own shop, Berry's Stores, in Wembdon, between 1960 and 1980.

Another couple celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary on the same day were Ronald and Cynthia Miller, who enjoyed a gathering at the White Cottage in West Huntspill, with close friends and family.

The couple, of Parkway, Bridgwater, met when Second World War veteran Ronald was cycling through Creech St Michael one day.

They both worked at Cellophane for most of their working life and had no children.
