A Bridgwater mother believes she is the latest victim of a spate of air gun shootings around the town.

Mum-of-two Kelly Edrich was shocked to discover a small round hole in the sunroof of her Ford Escort estate outside her Kendale Road home, and believes it was caused by a gun.

Last week, the Mercury reported how a cat was shot in North Petherton and in September, 12-year-old Bridgwater boy Haiden Meare was shot in the head.

Although the shootings have not been fatal, Kelly, who is a wheelchair user and is heavily reliant on her car, said it was alarming to know people are using air guns.

She added: “It's really, really scary to think people are walking around with these guns, and that someone would do something like this to any car, let alone one with a wheelchair in it.

“I try to understand the mentality of it, but I just don't get it.”

Kelly uses the car to transport her daughter Chloe, aged 11, and 13-year-old son Jack, who also uses a wheelchair. She says her insurance will not cover the damage and she cannot afford to replace the glass.

Sgt Will Barlow said: “Airguns are classed as lethal barrelled weapons, and if you end up firing these weapons, you could end up facing armed police.”

Anyone with information about the incident, which happened between 10.30am and 6pm on September 27, should call Bridgwater police on 0845-4567000.
