PARENTS in Bridgwater will soon be able to keep up to date with their children's school dinners - via social networking site Twitter.

From the start of the autumn term a daily school menu update will be available on the website to subscribers.

Somerset County Council's Somerset County Services have teamed up with the School Food Trust to trial the pioneering scheme as an easy way of keeping in touch with parents.

The feed will also be used to update parents and carers on special food theme days, taster sessions, and how to apply for free school meals.

Cathy Courts from networking website for mothers, Netmums, said: “Getting a menu every day will put parents in much better control of their child's diet.”

Karen Rafferty from Somerset County Services added: “We are always looking for new ways to get information to parents, so using a social network like Twitter is the next logical step.

“The service is very popular with adults across the UK, so we think this is a great extra way for us to send out menus. We're keen to get feedback from as many parents in Somerset as possible.”
