THE first day of the women's ICC World Twenty20 cup is over Taunton's County Ground with England off to a flyer.

Pupils from Taunton's North Town Primary School led a guard of honour for the South African Team while Priorswood Primary School pupils led out the West Indies team in the first match this morning.

The West Indies won the match in a thrilling encounter that went down to the last ball.

In the afternoon match, England thrashed India by 10 wickets, reaching their target of 113 in the 16th over.

Over the next six days, the town will host 12 matches between the top cricketing naitons in the world.

There are two games each day until next Tuesday.

The other sides taking part are Australia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and Pakistan.

The top two teams in each of two groups will progress to the semi finals.
