EMMA the grey seal is one of the first animals to move into a new deep-water pool at the West Hatch RSPCA Centre near Taunton.
The six-foot deep pool was built after the Napoli disaster in 2007 which left thousands of birds needing treating for oil pollution.
The Friends of West Hatch helped raise the £50,000 for the pool in case more birds needed treating.
Emma was brought to the wildlife rehabilitation centre from Cornwall after being found underweight and severely ill.
She has now gained weight and is much healthier.
It is hoped to be moved to the Gweek National Seal Sanctuary in Cornwall for the final stage of her rehabilitation within a couple of months.
