TAUNTON, Wellington and surrounding towns and villages fell silent yesterday to remember those who died fighting for our country in two world wars and other conflicts.

A service of remembrance was held at St Mary Magdalene Church, in Taunton, on Sunday morning.

Afterwards, service veterans, cadets and others marched to Vivary Park war memorial for the two-minute silence and the laying of wreaths.

In the afternoon, a Remembrance Sunday service was held in Wellington Park.

A Remembrance Day ceremony is being held outside the Market House at 11am tomorrow, when a further silence will be observed.

Stoke St Gregory remembered the brave villagers who lost their lives in the First World War.

An exhibition in the Williams Hall on Saturday marked the 90th anniversary of the ‘war to end all wars’.

Organisers Gareth Mellors and Sue Hembrow researched the names and details of all the local men who died fighting for their country.

There were several displays and donations from visitors are going to the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.
