HUNDREDS flocked to see the world-class competitors of the 2008 Tour of Britain storm through Bridgwater this afternoon (Tuesday).
Eager spectators set off early to get the best view of the talented cyclists racing through the town on the final leg of the South West stage.
They got their wish at around 2.50pm when the front-runners first made their way down West Street in front of crowds lining the road, willing on their every pedal revolution.
Pupils from Chilton Trinity School lined the Northern Distribution Road to cheer on the athletes as they competed in the final sprint finish section of the stage.
The South West stage started in Chard this morning and saw the cyclists travel through Devon before navigating round to Bridgwater before finishing at Marine Drive in Burnham.
Team Agritubel riders Emilien Berges and Geoffrey Lequarte came in first and second while team Great Britain’s Ian Stannard finished sixth.
Danilo di Luca of the LPR Brakes – Ballan team won the sprints competition, Kristian House of Rapha – Conor won the mountains competition and Roger Hammond scooped the overall points competition prize.
