TWO on-duty Avon and Somerset Police detectives sent WhatsApp messages to each other making "discriminatory comments...on the grounds of race" about two colleagues, a misconduct hearing will hear.

DC Simon Jones and DC Robert Corry, who no longer work for the force, stand accused of breaching the standards of professional behaviour.

The allegations are that the officers exchanged WhatsApp messages with each other in relation to two other colleagues in April 2020.

It is claimed these messages contained "discriminatory comments about the two other colleagues on the grounds of race".

Both men are said to have failed to challenge each other in relation to those comments.

If the allegations are proven at a public misconduct hearing at police HQ in Portishead next Thursday (April 4), Jones and Corry will be judged to have acted in a manner amounting to gross misconduct.

They are accused of breaching the following standards of professional behaviour - authority, respect and courtesy; equality and diversity; challenging and reporting improper behaviour; and discreditable conduct.
