THE RSPCA is trying to track down the owner of a dead dog discovered floating in the water at Bridgwater Docks.

The animal charity is trying to solve the mystery of how the animal met its death.

RSPCA animal rescue officer Clara Scully was called to the docks after the French bulldog's body was spotted in the water at around 3pm on Sunday, November 19.

She said: “We couldn’t see any obvious cause of death, but we’re concerned about how the dog - a dark coloured female French bulldog - had died before being found in the water.

“She was microchipped but still to the breeder and after chasing leads we still haven't managed to track the current owner and we’ve had no response to the posters we’d placed in the area.

"We’d like to find out where she came from and who she belonged to so hope someone who sees this appeal will be able to help.

“These are obviously unusual circumstances so we’d like to establish how this poor dog died and whether she suffered before her death."

Anyone with any information should contact the RSPCA's appeal line on 0300 123 8018.
